Dubbelju 20th Anniversary Bash

Last weekend, a big group of Dubbelju crew, family, and friends headed south to enjoy a weekend of riding, great food, and camaraderie.

Our route took us down some totally deserted two-lane roads -- great alternatives to I-5 or US101.

Our destination was the Song Dog Ranch in the wilds of eastern Santa Barbara County, right down the road from New Cuyama.

Meals here are a carnivore's delight.

Here you can also see straw-bale buildings under construction.

It's a great starting point for group rides.

After a memorable weekend, it was time to head home.

It's party time! As part of our ongoing 20th Anniversary celebration, the Dubbelju family is heading out of town for a three-day motorcycle camping trip. This means that Dubbelju Motorcycle Rentals will be CLOSED on Saturday, August 20 and Monday, August 22, 2011 -- in addition to our usual Sunday closure. We'll be back to serve you on Tuesday, August 23.

Rocco’s Café, just a few blocks away from Dubbelju, offers exactly what you are looking for. The place has street parking, a great menu and offers excellent quality and good size portions. This is the place where the locals eat.

Summer Shop Ride

Last week the Dubbelju crew celebrated the beginning of summer with a group ride of our team members and friends and family.

It was our biggest shop ride ever -- with 10 bikes ranging from a Honda Hornet to a Harley-Davidson Electraglide, and everything in between.

We wandered along Marin County back roads to Point Reyes and then inland on Coleman Valley Road -- a great little undiscovered twisty road that took us to Occidental.

Here we enjoyed yummy food and live music at the Barley & Hops Tavern before heading home.

It was another great day of motorcycling in Northern California.

Our bikes get around!

We recently said goodbye to one of our rental bikes: a BMW R1200R. It was purchased by Petr Filipchyk, who picked it up a couple of weeks ago and rode it all the way to his home in Louisiana.

Petr writes,

I made it back a little over a week ago.

I started running out of time around half way into my trip, and since this was more of a business trip for me, I had to cut it a little short and ride straight through the second half of New Mexico and Texas. The first half of the trip was just amazing though. On the first day, I had a little wrist pain from working the clutch and froze a bit, but it was all gone starting day two, when I relaxed a bit. Scenery along the pacific and towards Death Valley was spectacular.

The route you drew out for me was great. I only regret I skipped a few legs of it toward the end, though it’ll be something to look forward to later on. I didn’t have any mechanical or tire issues or any issues really. The biggest pain was riding on the interstate through Texas with high wind-gusts. I think interstate system and biking are not compatible. Also, it’s almost hard to believe but there was not a single drop of rain for the whole trip.

I’ve been riding it to work for now, but will probably make a south-east-us trip soon (up the Natchez Parkway into the Smoky Mountains and down around the Florida Panhandle – hopefully will see the last shuttle blast off as well).

I want to thank you again for your help getting me ready and on my way. With all the route and bike tips, I felt like I’ve been down that path many times and was able to just enjoy the ride, even though that was my first ride of any significant length (~2,800 miles).

Please also say hi to the lady (I’m bad with names) that helped me with the paperwork, gear, and bungee-cords.

The ultimate "fly-ride" trip!

An Airbus A380 lands at SFO; the pilot gets out of the plane, walks down the stairs, jumps on his Harley and takes off right from the runway to go riding – no BART, no taxis, no walking.

Impossible, you say? But that’s exactly what happened a couple of days ago at San Francisco’s International Airport. Jürgen, one of the senior Lufthansa pilots, made his dream come true.

Dubbelju supplied the bike for this unusual adventure, and the guys from http://pilotseye.tv shot a nice movie about it. The movie will be released next year, and you will see parts of it on our web site as well as on some of the major Lufthansa flights.

A special thanks to the guys from the Airfield Safety Crew who helped tremendously to make this happen.
