If you'd like to join us for this tour you are welcome to ride your own bike, or you can choose from our stable of late model rental bikes and receive a 15% discount on our rental rates.
All hotel, motel and B&B accommodations and all breakfasts. Rental of a Triumph Bonneville / Scrambler Motorcycle or a motorcycle in the same price category. (some Harley, Triumph or BMW models require a small surcharge) back up mechanical support and vehicle with adequate space for seating and luggage. This tour combines the absolute best of Northern California on a 7 day circular ride. Starting in San Francisco, we will ride across the famous Golden Gate Bridge onto Marin County's amazing Coastal Highways and then up to the majestic redwood forests of Mendocino and Humboldt Counties.
Then we'll take on some sweeping mountain roads along California's northern border with Oregon near picturesque Mount Shasta and Lassen Volcanic Park. Finally, we'll wind back down with a ride through the old Gold Rush town of Nevada City followed by a night of rejuvenation at a spa in the Napa Valley Wine Country.
Sample Tour Schedule
Arrive San Francisco, California
Meeting and briefing at 6.00pm at Dubbelju Motorcycle Rentals for motorcycle rental and insurance formalities, followed by an optional group dinner in one of our favorite nearby restaurants. Welcome to San Francisco and the Edge of the West!
Point Reyes Station
We will meet at Dubbelju at 9.00AM to pick up our motorcycles. We will start with a taste off the streets of San Francisco and a nice breakfast at Mel's, then we'll head over the Golden Gate Bridge towards our lunch stop near Mount Tamalpais. Tremendous views back towards the Golden Gate, San Francisco, Alcatraz and the Pacific from the Marin Headlands. The stunning after-lunch ride takes us over Mt. Tamalpais with continuous views overlooking Stinson Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Late afternoon arrival in the small town of Olema, the epic center of the 1906 earthquake.
Great ride up the coast along the legendary Pacific Coast Highway through picturesque Bodega Bay. We'll follow the Russian River and take some small back roads to connect with Skaggs Springs Road, which will take us inland through dense redwood forests and vineyards until we arrive at our lunch spot near Healdsburg. Back to the Coast along the Anderson Valley. Good run here starting with fast mountain highway twisties into high open ranch land, before riding through the amazing Navarro Redwoods. We'll meet the Pacific again at Elk, where we will spend the night after a long day riding.
Early morning departure featuring classic Northern Cal rocky coast riding, then inland to the town of Leggett, where we pick up the famous Avenue of the Giants!. After running through what must be the most impressive redwood stands in all of the Northwest, we will turn off towards Honeydew. Afternoon ride along the Lost Coast and down into the antique Victorian village of Ferndale for overnight. Accommodations at the comfortable Fern Motel. Evening free to relax at one of the local pubs; try Curley's Grill for some old time flavour.
Short ride this morning to our breakfast stop at a favorite place in Eureka, followed by a quick ride up Highway 101 to our turnoff onto Route 299 near Arcata. Then a long afternoon's traverse through Marble Mountain Wilderness Area and Klamath National Forest. Lunch at Happy Camp. Late afternoon arrival in Weed at the foot of stunning 14,162ft Mount Shasta. Overnight accommodations at the original Hi-Lo Motel with its excellent old-style attached diner.
Lassen Volcanic Park – Nevada City
Long day's ride as we turn south on fast-moving Route 89 towards 10,457-foot Lassen Peak in Lassen Volcanic National Park, which last erupted in the 1920s and has commanding views of the surrounding area. Lunch at Mill Creek. Then, we will follow the road towards Sierraville and turn onto Rt 49 with a late afternoon arrival in Nevada City. Evening free to explore this interesting old restored Gold Rush town.
After a leisurely breakfast, our tour continues west through Grass Valley and on to our lunch stop near Clear Lake. Afternoon arrival at our overnight accommodations at the Roman Spa in the Napa Valley town of Calistoga. Rest of the day and evening free for a massage and soak in one of the hot mineral pools!
Napa – San Francisco
After breakfast, we will have a short ride trough the word famous vineyards of Napa and Sonoma Valley. Stop at a small winery for a tour and a packed lunch break. Afternoon ride back over the Golden Gate and into San Francisco. Group dinner starting with drinks and slideshow at the Dubbelju shop before heading over to Eddie Rickenbacker's famous Motorcycle Bar and Restaurant for our last dinner together!

A Word of Caution
Motorcycling the coastal highways and mountainous areas of the Northern California is surely one of the best ways to experience the regions rich cultural history, friendly people, and unequaled scenery. At the same time, motorcycling does have its dangers - Especially on narrow mountain roads with unpredictable traffic and quick changing weather conditions. This tour is operated by Dubbelju Motorcycle Rentals and should be undertaken by fit, experienced riders with an open mind for changing conditions.
